“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.” - T.S Eliot.

You may have heard this many times before: an ending only leads to new beginnings. So as the year 2020 comes to an end, we shall enter the new year full of new hopes and dreams - Most of us may have had a list of goals we would like to achieve in the year 2020 but due to unforeseen circumstances, those plans were held back as the world had other plans for us.

However, it is never too late to achieve what you have set your mind on. It simply does not matter if 2020 was not the year to do it all like we hoped for it to be because 2020 was a year for us to achieve other goals that we were too busy fo before. It was a year of taking the time to fully and truly understand and educate ourselves. It is a moment to sit back and to better understand ourselves in ways that make us simply more human than ever before.

So do it all in 2021 instead, when the world gets better and when the world is ready for us again. With that being said, here are 3 New Year’s resolutions that we encourage you to keep for the year 2021:

Electronics free-zone.

It is good to always be up to date by staying online, but it is also important to log off every once in a while from the online world and spend quality time with yourself and your loved ones. Not to forget, to get yourself a good night’s sleep at night without being caught up on your devices all night now that we are mostly indoors and are completely relying on our devices to keep up updated on the outside world but it is not necessarily healthy for us.

Start slowly at your own pace and in time, you will truly understand the beauty of spending a good amount of time offline.

Take breaks.

It is said that 90% of employers encourage breaks, but only 45% of us are actually okay with taking them!

It seems like most of us are too guilty to leave our desks for breaks. We get too worried that taking a break may take away the time that can be used to get work done or that it would make us look or feel less productive. However, it has been said that the opposite is true! 10% of most productive employees take about 17-minute breaks for every 52 minutes of work they put in at work.

There is tremendous value in taking breaks, and we could all benefit from them. It could be from anything you do really - It is always good to let your mind and body take a moment to breathe rather than overworking yourself which will cause you to burn out and stressed. With that being said, we highly encourage you to take a break every once in a while. It is healthy and you deserve it!

Be it on a book or online, the most successful people in the world never stop learning! If you do not already know this, there is simply a reason why 70% of adults in professional or managerial roles continue their education. It is one of the best ways for us to keep up with industry trends, learn from experts, and get the creative juices flowing continuously.

One of the best ways to do that outside of a homeroom is to read what others are writing about! Reading more might even help you become a better writer (if that is something you are looking to improve on), and exploring external content helps you to gain different perspectives on vital issues, whether or not they are of personal or professional interest. Like they always say, you only gain more when you read and we encourage you to keep learning and growing!

With all the time we have indoors, spend them wisely before life gets a little hectic once more in the near future. It is a chance for us to fully invest in ourselves by making our mind, soul, and body healthier in so many ways! We hope everyone is coping well and we are excited for what is to come in 2021.
